What would be classed as a home emergency?

An emergency would be something that prevents you from occupying your home in a safe and reasonable way. 

To allow our team to respond to genuine emergencies outside of office hours, please only phone if your situation is listed below:

  • Complete failure of the heating systems and/or hot water system. If your heating fails in the summer, it's unlikely to be an emergency. However, if it fails in the winter, this would be classed as an emergency. 
  • A water leak that cannot be contained.
  • Complete failure of the electrics. Please firstly check the failure has not been caused by the trip switch being activated by a fault on a domestic appliance. For more help with this, click here
  • Flooding caused by blocked drains that threatens to enter the home.
  • A fault to a window or external door causing a loss of security.

If you suspect a gas leak, or are worried that fumes containing carbon monoxide are escaping from a gas appliance, please call the free Gas Emergency Service line immediately on 0800 111999 (24 hours) or for further detail, click here

If you smell gas, turn off your gas supply immediately. Find the lever next to your meter and move it one quarter of the way round, either right or left, until the gas stops. Once the gas has been turned off, open the windows and doors to let in plenty of fresh air.
